Excessive sweating from the hands can affect routine daily life, from typing at a keyboard, holding a pen or an instrument. Most of all a simple handshake can become acutely embarrassing.
The condition can be controlled for some using antiperspirants or Iontophoresis (using low level electric currents in a water bath), but this is not effective for all people.
Surgery can be used but this is a drastic solution with potentially severe complications. Surgical procedures can result in excessive sweating occurring in new, previously unaffected parts of the body.
BOTOX® therapy can be used to control the problem. By infiltrating the surface skin of the palm with botulinum toxin, the nerve stimulation is blocked effectively reducing the volume of sweat that is produced. Results are not permanent with sweating returning slowly from 6 months so the procedure will need to be repeated to keep the condition under control. Sometimes it has been found that after a few treatments, top ups are required less often however.
Palmar BOTOX® treatment costs £380 for both hands – an initial consultation will be required to assess and discuss the treatment options. Some clients do prefer to treat only the dominant hand.
