Excessive sweating from the armpit can be a genuine problem. Sufferers have to endure the discomfort and irritation of the frequent moisture in the armpits and worrying about embarrassing wet patches being noticed. This can interfere with social and work situations.
The first line of treatment is the simple use of antiperspirant containing Aluminium Chloride however this can often be insufficient to keep the problem under control. Surgery is difficult for excessive armpit sweating, and as with all surgical procedures, can have significant risks and complications, and is a considerable undertaking.
BOTOX® therapy can be used to control the problem. Taking less than an hour to perform, infiltration of the problem area with botulinum toxin will block the nerve endings in that area stimulating the sweat glands and hence effectively reduce the volume of sweat production. Results are not permanent with sweating returning slowly over 6 months so the procedure will need to be repeated to keep the condition under control. Sometimes it has been found that after a few treatments, top ups are required less often however.
Axillary BOTOX® treatment costs £380 for both armpits – an initial consultation will be required to assess and discuss the treatment options.
